Rhythmical Flow.....What is it?

Hi,

Have you ever got into a type of "Zone" when you are carrying out a task? You know what I mean? a kind of place where time stops...nothing matters...only what is going on in your head regarding your task. You're in a kind of "bubble" and things flow effortlessly, like when your studying and answers come with ease, or writing, or planning, or maybe just in conversation...you just know what to say. When this happens, you're in a "rhythmical flow". I'm sure you all know what I mean...you've all been there. What has happened is that everything is rhythmically aligned...your thoughts, your feelings, your mood, your concentration, your focus and your communication channels. All these inner networks and frequencies are synchronised perfectly and work with ease. There is inner organisation and balance.  Somewhere along the way you became "One"... there was nobody, or nothing assisting you...just you alone flowing along in a confident and assertive time zone.

It is my mantra, and I'll say it again and again..."Rhythm is the great Organiser" When we get into a rhythmical drift, whether it is physical, emotional, social or spiritual, we are unstoppable. We are operating at our highest level of awareness and comprehension, and we feel we can move mountains. However, this tends to happen to us when we least expect it...I mean it just happens. We don't feel it coming on and there are no warning signs. Or are there?

The next time you feel yourself in this "zone" I want you to check yourself...stop for a moment and ask yourself "how do I feel right now?" There will only be one answer...you will feel very relaxed, free of stress or worries, and your breathing will be light and easy flowing. This is what Rhythmical flow creates...a feeling of complete relaxation, conviction, certainty and confidence. Some how you have found yourself in this "space" unknowingly. What a pity it doesn't happen more often I hear you say. Well it can, and it can be almost permanent if you work on how to find it, practice it and introduce it to your lifestyle.

The best leaders, sportspeople, artists, corporations and small business's are in this Rhythmical flow...some by accident more than design, but to sustain it and make it a systematic part of your personal life or your professional business, you have to work on firstly understanding the concept, and then introducing a method to make it a part of your lifestyle. Here are a few primary steps you can take to learn how to live a more measured life, and help you enter a "Rhythmical Flow

  • Slow down the pace of your life.
  • Start to introduce some routines in your life.
  • Check your breathing often, and make sure it's smooth and easy.
  • Introduce more synchronised routines with your employees.
  • Plan in a rhythmical way, and don't procrastinate.
  • Exercise to a rhythmical "beat" (listening to music)
  • Learn a musical instrument.
  • Get involved in a sports team
  • Join a yoga or Thi Chi class.
  • Learn to play a hand drum (D'jembe)
  • Learn to dance.
These are just a few ideas to get you going...there are many more and I'm sure you will find your own preferred method.

Rhythmical flow happens everywhere...at home with your family, at work with your co-workers or employees, with your friends and acquaintances in social settings and most of all in your own biological mechanisms. Remember, when you are creating Rhythmical Routines in your life you are creating lifestyle habits... and as the great Aristotle once said "We are what we repeatedly do, Excellence then, it not an act, but a habit".

What has Rhythm to do with Wellness/Development?

Hi Guys,

A lot of people ask me what Rhythm has to do whit Wellness/Personal Development. Well, let me try to explain a little. Before I do so, I want to say that there have been many studies and research programmes carried out on the effects of rhythm/drumming over the years, and I will include a link to some of them at the end of this blog.

When you think about it, it's not "rocket science" that Rhythm can play a role in our personal wellness and development, after all Rhythm is a constant component of living our lives. Just think of all the many ways we use Rhythm each day to carry out our work and daily activities for instance. Could you drive your car without the aid of Rhythm? type an email? operate a machine? direct traffic? teach maths? hammer a nail? ride a horse? play a sport? I could go on and on. We need a sense of rhythm to do almost everything we do in life, so it goes without saying that the greater our "sense" of rhythm is, the better we will execute these undertakings. Don't think of Rhythm as only a Musical component....it is a universal component used to "Organise". That's what rhythm does, it creates order from chaos. Everything we do in life needs to be done in a certain order for it to make sense, and also at a certain tempo (speed) and with a certain balance of movement.....Rhythm controls and regulates all of these components in order to achieve the desired outcome. People who are good at certain sports, or thrive in any area of work or performance endeavour, tend to have a superior sense of Rhythm. This is not to say they are good "drummers", no not necessarily, however they tend to have an inbuilt "organisational" element that guides them through the various stages of what ever their task might be. This is Rhythm. Improving our Rhythmical awareness and/or abilities will improve our ability to carry out any task with greater balance, flow, clarity and accuracy.

Remember also the we are human biological Rhythmical machines. This means that all our biological components are linked Rhythmically. There is a flow, balance and tempo to all our inner workings, and they are all linked to synchronize and entrain in perfect Rhythm. Our breathing, heartbeat, blood flow, digestion system are all organised to work to a flowing Rhythm that keeps everything in order. When something is out of order, or Rhythm, we get ill. Partaking in a Rhythmical activity such as drumming, aligns all of these factors, and helps them communicate and synchronise.

Drumming together as a group also lifts our spirits and empowers us. It's an energy we get from being wrapped in a Rhythmical blanket of vibrational sound and frequencies. When we all entrain (synchronize) while drumming, a wonderful relaxing feeling of togetherness and support emerges, and we feel an empowering sensation take over our body as our brains release "happy" and therapeutic endorphins, and send them to every receptive part of our bodies. It's an amazing feeling that's created simply by synchronizing Rhythmically with other people.

Drumming/Rhythm can and does effect our wellbeing and our development...make no mistake about it. Here are some links to research papers for you to read and digest.

My New and Exciting Coaching Career...

Hi all,

It's great to be back writing again, and I'd like to fill you in with what has being happening with me since my last blog. Firstly, I am now studying in Marino Institute of Education for a Diploma in Executive and Life Coaching.  I am already just a little over a month into this course, and it's great...I'm really enjoying it. Why Coaching? Well, the work I had been doing with my drumming workshops was infact sometimes very close to Coaching, but not quite. I suppose my workshops were more Recreational than Developmental. However, I always wanted my workshops to be more helpful to people in terms of Personal Development, because that is what I enjoying doing more than anything...helping people. Nothing gives me more pleasure than knowing that I was a help to someone talking the next step towards their goal, or empowering someone to be a better version of themselves. So, I gave this a lot of thought and discovered what I really wanted to do is coaching...helping people in their personal and professional lives.,

I have many years experience of facilitating drumming workshops for Recreation, Therapy, Creativity and so on, and have a Certificate in Therapeutic Drumming, and I am a trained HealthRhythms facilitator,
but that was not enough. I always felt there was more, something else missing, and that was it...Coaching. That is why I am now a student on this great course. The course will be finished in September when I will be a fully Professional Qualified Executive and Life Coach.

What I intend to do then is to bring all my skills together...the drumming and the Life Coaching, and create a very strong and powerful service for individuals and groups who wish to transform their lives and achieve their personal and professional goals. You see, I believe it is very important to get yourself into the right "rhythm" to tackle anything...including a goal. I use the drumming to align the client internally and externally. I also use the Drumming/Rhythm to relax and de-stress the client. All this sets the client/s up for the important Coaching Process, and also Empowers and Energizes them.

How all this works in practical terms I will explain in future blogs so that you can gain an understanding of how it all comes together. It's an exciting, empowering and fun way to change your life and transform your world, and start to create the life you want. If you are one of those people who believe you are only living life in second gear, and that you have much unused talent...in any area of life...perhaps this might be something you might be interested in doing. I will be running some "Open" workshops in a few weeks and they will be designed to introduce clients to how the Coaching courses will work. Keep an eye out for information about them. Please share this message with your friends or anyone who might be interested in some personal or professional Coaching.

Please leave some comments if you wish, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

More news on this very soon,

Cheers for now, and stay in Rhythm,

God bless,

Eddie.
